How to measure your dog for a collar: calmly and accurately.
A careful measurement is the foundation of a comfortable fit. This guide explains how to measure the neck and which additional details help with a custom enquiry.
Use a soft measuring tape that follows the neck without kinking. Your dog should stand calmly and naturally. Do not measure over an existing collar, and avoid a rigid cord if its length cannot be transferred accurately afterwards.

Step by step
Measure where the collar will sit.
Place the tape around the intended position. It should sit close without digging in or hanging loosely. With a thick coat, account for the fur gently without compressing it heavily.
Measure twice. If the results differ, repeat the process while your dog is standing calmly. Do not add your own allowance when an atelier calculates the finished size for its particular construction.

For sighthounds
Describe the proportions carefully.
Sighthounds often have a narrow head and a comparatively strong neck base. Depending on the model, head circumference, desired collar width and exact wearing position may also matter.

Review the measurements together.
Send the measurements with a photograph of the measuring position and information about the chosen style. This helps identify misunderstandings early.
